A guide to Twitch etiquette
Here you can find information about the so called "Twitch Etiquette" that is basically just the way someone acts in a Twitch chat! :)(streamers, feel free to use this for your own channels! I recommend a "!etiquette" command.)
Twitch etiquette
1. - Before chatting, please read the channel rules! (it is likely that each Broadcaster has a “!rules” command or even a panel with them in their channel) [if in doubt, ask a Moderator or the Broadcaster themselves]
2. - NEVER mention viewer count! Some streamers have the viewer counter off so, please be aware of this and don’t mention it just in case.
3. - Do not say things like “There are [amount] viewers here and I am the only one chatting” or something in between those lines since it is extremely rude and can make the Broadcaster feel overwhelmed and/or unmotivated.
4. - Do not talk about other Broadcasters that are live. It is just simply very rude.
5. - Do not argue with the Broadcaster. If they say “no”, then a “no” it is! Accept it and move on.
6. - Respect Moderator actions! Never argue why action was taken.
7. - Do not try to “Mini-mod”. If action needs to be taken, let the Moderation team and/or Broadcaster take care of it.
8. - Do not ask “Can you raid [insert name here]?”. If you really want to go watch another Broadcaster, go and do it! (this can be seen as both rude and even as “free promotion”)
9. - DO NOT SPOIL RAIDS! Very self explanatory. Just don’t do it.
10. - Maintain chat within context! For example: if the Broadcaster is talking about carrots, do not talk about onions. Simple as that!
11. - Do not self promote yourself or even try to “softly” self promote yourself. It is most likely that Moderators will take action if this happens.
12. - Refrain from tagging people in chat for no reason! Especially if someone is lurking.
13. - Do not be rude to other chatters! Very self explanatory really.
14. - “Can you play [insert game here] instead?” No. Do not ask this! If you want to watch a different game, go search for Broadcasters playing that said game.
15. - Do not backseat. If a Broadcaster needs help in a specific section of a game, they will ask BUT if they don’t, stop telling them what to do. “Oh but if you do [insert game action] is way better!”, is a good example of this.
16. - Do not metagame. Same rule as number 15 but with a different meaning. :)
17. - “Can you shout me out?”, “Can you say [insert phrase]?”, “Can you say hi to me?”, “Can I play with you?/Can I join you?”, etc. are annoying. Do not do this.
18. - “If you win this game I will follow you!” is something very rude and annoying to say. Do not say things like this.
19. - Asking questions is okay! Just make sure that the Broadcaster feels comfortable with such and make sure that you are not being annoying/overwhelming.
20. - If the Broadcaster is playing with someone, please be patient regarding chat messages/alerts/redemptions/etc. It can be difficult to read chat as often if there is someone else in voice chat with the Broadcaster.
21. - Do not act “entitled” towards a Broadcaster only because you may be subbed to them or have been a follower for quite some time.
22. - Do not act parasocial towards a Broadcaster! Remember that you do NOT know them and they do NOT know you.
23. - Be nice, use common sense and think twice before saying something in chat. :)
